About
In 1995, a group of students, faculty and alumni from Oklahoma State University traveled to the University of Florida to witness its annual pep rally known as the “Gator Growl.” When they returned, they had fallen witness to what would be the inspiration for Orange Peel.
A month later, student leaders were selected and the planning and preparation for the first Orange Peel began.
Orange Peel was named in order to honor our University’s primary color. The creators wanted to get away from the cowboy theme and develop something with its own identity.
After deciding on a name, the students decided to let the campus submit ideas for a mascot. From this contest, Pulp was born. He was to be an orange wearing a cowboy hat and boots.
With a mascot and a name, the team forged ahead developing a mission statement and a set of goals. The mission was simple. "To become the largest student-produced concert event in the country and provide the OSU family with national and local headlining entertainment."
Now in our ninth year, we can safely say the goal has been achieved. Orange Peel has offered such musical entertainers as Randy Travis, Faith Hill, Collective Soul, Blues Traveler, Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind and Barenaked Ladies. It has sponsored such famed comedians like Bill Cosby, Jeff Foxworthy, Sinbad, David Spade, Kevin Nealon and Damon Wayans. Since its inception, more than 200,000 people have attended Orange Peel. It is not only the largest student-produced concert event in the country, but it also is the largest student-produced and student-run event with almost 200 students contributing to the annual program.
Orange Peel is a truly unique event that offers students, faculty, alumni, the Stillwater community and the entire state an opportunity to see first class entertainment in a first class atmosphere.
With annual additions like the Helping Hands Project and Feel the Peel Week activities, Orange Peel will only continue to grow and impress.
